Here's my take-- Obviously, Adam is the most talented contestant of the season. He's more like a guest start than a contestant, really rolleyes.gif

It's also very obvious that the powers that be at AI really want Adam to win. I think that this week was not his strongest performance and yet not a negative word out of anyone's mouth- they didn't even want to mention the very big back-up singer blunder on "Crying".(tho that obviously does not reflect on his performance). Simon praising him on talk shows. Paula calling him the next Idol. Allowing the Katie Perry cape. Etc, etc.

Why do they want him to win? The same reason AI was created- to make lots of $$$. Adam is a walking gold mine just ready to be dug. Yes, Chris and Danny were getting lots of votes, but are they from people who are neccesarily going to go out and buy their albums? No- a lot of their votes are coming from people who simply don't want to vote Adam for whatever reason- religion, politics, don't like his style. They're voting because they don't like the obvious winner. So a lot of the Chris/Danny fan base is really just an anti-Adam base. One and two years from now they won't remember the name of who they voted for. This is not even considering the whole "vote for the worst" stupidity.

Adam, on the other hand, is quickly developing a cult-like following of people who just can't wait to spend their cash on him. He's made the most $$ on ITunes consistently. He is FASCINATING to watch. He has the "it " factor, and the "it" factor = big $$$ People vote for him because they LOVE him and his artistry. He is unlike anything we've seen on Idol. I know that personally, in years past, I always voted for my favorite a few times but then failed to really care much once the show was over. Adam is the first contestant that has moved me to rewind my DVR 10 times, purchase ANYTHING on ITunes, but Idol tour tickets, and vote 200X. When I watch him I feel that I must know how Elvis's fans felt when he first hit the scene!! And I am a 35 yo conservative mother of 2, not your typical fan!!

Adam is also in this for his career, for the money and the fame, and he gets so much respect from me by not being afraid to admit that openly. Anyone trying to get in the industry who wants to do it just for "their art" or to "touch people's hearts" is not being honest. Are they willing to do it all for free, then?? Clearly, Adam has more smarts in the business and is more realistic about how and why then came to end up on AI. They are pawns in the AI machine which operates solely to make everyone a lot of money.

Anyway, to my point. Adam is going to be a star whether he wins or not. History of AI has shown that talent and appeal determine post-AI success, not the position you finish in. I would question if some real talents on AI (Fantasia comes to mind) were hindered by their win. Question is, does he WANT to be tied into the whole Sony contract, PC talk show appearances, and lots of powerful people signing his paycheck potentially trying to limit his creative and financial options? Is winning best for Adam? Is winning what he really wants?

I'll be happy with the outcome either way next week because I'm confident we're going to see a lot more of Adam no matter what. I just don't know if I should spend all night dialing or just leave it to the fates.... it's sort of a moral dillema I'm having............!!

What are your thoughts??

I agree, winning might not be the best! The only problem I have with him being runner up is that people will rub it in my face the coming day... and that's my least favorite feeling...
But, even though I'm not a Kris nor Danny fan much, I must say that saying that they're getting votes just because they hate Adam would be offensive to them. Be careful of that in the future. ;]
Danny fans voted for Danny because they loved Danny, as do Kris fans FOR THE MOST PART. There is a small group of fans voting for Kris because of their hatred for Adam, but that shouldn't be classified as ALL their fans. ;] Just keeping these forums a happy place.

I agree with you. There is a tiny group of Danny fans that are against Adam just because. It wasnt Adams fault it wasn't Kris's fault that Danny left, it was just the votes.

idk if it's good or bad,,,,
some idol winners have put out some good albums (e.g. Carrie, Kelly and David), i think now days they let the winner have more input, i have David C. cd and he wrote every song...

The winners do have a lot of input anymore. Granted it did not start out that way but starting with even the first winner, Kelly changes have been made. Kelly herself started these changes when she sued 19 to get out of her contract because of the fact that she did not have the input she wanted, she then went to Reba McIntire's husband as her manager and producers of AI saw that giving a winner the input they desire can make money and lots of it. Take Carrie's first cd for example, she had input on that and that thing made a lot of money, for her and for AI. The only thing that worries me is that some winners (Reuben, Fantasia and even Taylor to a degree) have not been promoted right in my opinion that is the reason they just kinda faded into the background.

I honestly couldn't agree more. You've expressed a lot of my thoughts and expanded on them. It never, for instance, crossed my mind that a lot of people voting for others have simply been "anti-Adam." But you're absolutely right and the moment I read that it was like a lightbulb going on. "Oh, that explains it."

And I feel the same way you do. I always watch AI and I always vote for my favorite a few times, but I've never bought an album, a ticket, not so much as a single song.

But my cash is in hand for Adam's first album. I'm dying for it.

I admit it's crossed my mind to not even vote for Adam on tuesday in the hopes that he'll come in second and therefore have more creative control over his first album. However, I slapped myself upside the head and realized it's better to help him have the best chance of winning (every few hundred votes counts!) since I have to assume that's what he wants.

And I think in the end that's what we should go on, as fans. If Adam wants to win, I'm giving it my all for him.

Yes I see it the same way.
I want Adam to win, just to see him embrace the moment, but I also don't want him to be tight up by AI and be unable to express his true feelings in his music.

But I still want him to win, so we can see his expression and his face next year at the auditions!!

Hell yes! I say go for the win!

I ask you this:

Have any of you ever entered a competition?

Have any of you played a team sport?

Have any of you ever worked really hard to get a promotion in a competitive work environment?

Have any of you ever placed a bet in your life for money?

Have any of you dared to try to make your dreams a reality?

My bet is that in each of the cases above you'd WANT to come out as the winner.

So does Adam.

He does not NEED to win to be a huge star, but he WANTS to win.

Besides, as the winner they're not bound by contract for life.

Look at Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood. They won, they became huge stars overnight, and their crowning on AI as the winners of their respective seasons hasn't hurt them. Don't think for one minute that Daughtry or Hudson didn't want to win.

Adam will have more artistic freedom if he does not win.

Well
obviously if someone asked adam if he wants to win he would say yes.
But hind sight is 20/20 and if he does not win Im sure he'll soon discover that it was for the better.

I agree with you, bekeric. I've been thinking about this all season.

Confession time: I have never once voted for a contestant on Idol. To be honest, watching the show is a huge stretch for me. I've always thought that it is rigged and pointless to vote.

So, Adam pulled me into this headfirst with no warning. biggrin.gif I don't want to see his style cramped. His gorgeous, flirty, sensual, energetic, borderline inappropriate performances are just as spellbinding as his slower, emotional ones and I do not want him to be forced into the pop-star mold American Idol has created!

But at the same time, I doubt that he will LET Idol control him too much. Remember Ring of Fire? I heard-not sure if it's true-that they almost kicked him off. Then, much later, he turns the sex back on for Whole Lotta Love like he didn't even care. It was awesome.

I know that he really wants to win, and because of that I want him to. But, honestly, I think Kris is also talented. So either way, tomorrow night I'll be happy.
I want Adam to win to make a statement and because he IS the best contestant, hands down, but I know that whether he wins or not we'll see him in the music world very soon.

It doesn't matter, the fact is Adam entered this competition to WIN it - this is what he wants, and this is why all his fans should vote for him because he wants to win! smile.gif
