I followed American Idol......and was hoping you would win! I saw the American Idol tour in Ontario, and loved your performance.
The AMA performance......I was disappointed. I don't know what I was expecting, and I am certainly not opposed to watching an edgy performance, but this went maybe a bit too far.....not just for television but on a concert stage too. I am an older woman with grandchildren, and I am a diehard rock fan. I am not homophobic, and I am from Canada, whose citizens are some of the most tolerant in the world of differences in people. But my 10 year old granddaughter is a fan of yours also.....and she was somewhat embarrassed watching the AMA's. I would like to be able to buy tickets for all of us to attend a concert of yours, but I think I would be very hesitant to do so. You are an amazing talent.....your voice is your art......but I don't think your sexuality on stage should be quite so raw. You are a new performer, and I would have hoped you would approach your stage persona with a little respect for your audience, and not been quite so quick to rub our faces in your sexuality (so to speak!!). Ellen DeGeneres has been the perfect role model for those who are not heterosexual. She has just lived her life as a lesbian, and in doing so, has given people a chance to accept her as she is, and not have to say "I love Ellen, even if she is a lesbian". We just love Ellen.....whether she is a lesbian, a hetero, or a Martian. We are hoping for a world in which we can all live peacefully.....no matter our race, religion, sexual orientation or anything else. But we can't do that unless we can get used to people as they are and not because they are one thing or another. There should be no qualifications. You have a phenomenal voice. You don't need to be anything but a great singer to be noticed. We love you as you are, and I think I was looking forward to more of the same. I knew you were gay, but it didn't matter....I loved your talents as an artist. Now you are making me wonder if I was right to give you credit for being able to handle yourself as an upcoming star. I know you want people to accept you no matter what, but you are not going to accomplish that if you are as obvious as you were at the AMA's. Please, please rethink your approach to stage presence and give us all a chance to enjoy your talent, and don't just perform for your gay audience. |
